Acoca, Lesile, and Kelly Dedel. "No Place to Hide: Understanding and Meeting the Needs of Girls in
the California Juvenile Justice System." Www.ncjrs.gov. N.p., 17 July 1998. Web. 16 Feb. 2013. <://www.ncjrs.gov>.
This article honestly wasn't all that helpful. It gave me a broad generalization of the treatment of young girls in the juvenile justice system. It did however provide me with the most common reasons that girls begin to commit crimes at a young, tender age. Such reasons, like peer pressure or doing poorly in school, push girls to commit minor and unspeakable crimes. This database is nationally recommended and after I reviewed it I knew it is credible. As I said I didn't particularly gain much knowledge from this source, but others might.
Bronner, Ethan. "Sentencing Ruling Reflects Rethinking on Juvenile Justice." New York Times. N.p., 26
June 2012. Web. 25 Feb. 2013. <http://www.nytimes.com/2012/06/27/us/news-analysis-ruling-reflects-rethinking-on-juvenile-justice.html?pagewanted=all>.
This article informed me on how hard some adults are working to get fairer judgments for juveniles. Lawyers and judges are influencing the courts by proving that juvenile offenders have the ability to change, then prosper in society. More and more research is showing that less developed brains aren't as capable of making morally good decisions. When proving this in court juveniles don't have to worry about harsh attacks from older inmates, if convicted. This article is very credible, because it comes from a trust journalist from a repeatedly credible newspaper. This article was of great help to me, because it helped me understand how the brain functions and I was able to connect it to my topic very well.
Chesney-Lind, Meda. "Girls Delinquency & Juvenile Justice." Www.ncjrs.gov. N.p., 1998. Web. 16
Feb. 2013. <www.ncjrs.gov>.
This article provided me with reasons why children might land themselves in jail. the article told me that things such as social pressure, drug abuse, and alcohol abuse can lead to addiction, which leads to imprisonment. Females are very sensitive to these kinds of pressures. As a result female incarceration is getting worse. This resource was found in a national database that does very thorough work in providing content that it useful to other readers; that is why it is credible. This article was of value to me , because it showed me that young boys and girls are being imprisoned and it showed me the reasons why.
Eligon, John. "Seeking a Softer Justice System, Closer to Home, for New York's Juvenile Offenders."
New York Times. N.p., 26 Mar. 2012. Web. 8 Feb. 2013. <http://www.nytimes.com/2012/03/27/nyregion/lawmakers-seek-a-softer-justice-system-for-juvenile-offenders-in-new-york.html?pagewanted=all&_r=0>.
This article informed me that there is a solution to the problem I have been researching. It formally provides me with information on the most fruitful solution. People in the United states have different opinions. The majority of New York's population agreed. Which is amazing considering that it is a state with substantial crime levels. There are still critics, but not many oppose this answer to the question of juvenile justice. The credibility of the New York Times newspaper exceeds itself so I completely trust it. I valued this resource, because a solution was finally presented to me. This article provided me with information to make an informed decision.
May, Meredith. "Showing Teens a Way Out." San Francisco Chronicle. N.p., 18 Feb. 2013. Web.
19 Feb. 2013.
This newspaper article gave me so much more information and perspective on my topic. To hear that a former offender, turned lawyer, is giving back to communities around the country is amazing. He really cares and you can tell by his actions. Young men incarcerated respond positively to him. This newspaper is very reliable and respecedt in the Bay AreaThis source greatly helped me understand and sympathize with these young juveniles.
Rossum, Ralph A. "Holding Juveniles Accountable: Reforming America's Juvenile Injustice System."
Www.ncjrs.gov. N.p., 1994-1995. Web. 25 Feb. 2013. <www. Heinoline.org>.
This article was a reliable source , because it gave me current, up to date, statistics about my topic. This source is unbiased, because the facts rallied to me our statistics and numbers don't lie. The facts are well documented and easy to understand. This source is from a database so it is purely scholarly. This fits with my research, because it gave me statistics. In all it was helpful and it helped me narrow down my topic.
Severson, Kim. "Deal Signed to Overhaul Juvenile Justice in Tennessee." New York Times. N.p., 17
Dec. 2012. Web. 25 Jan. 2013. <http://www.nytimes.com/2012/12/18/us/tennessee-county-agrees-to-changes-in-juvenile-justice-system.html>.
This source gave me sufficient information about the kinds of kids that are in the juvenile court
system. It reported that the most likely people to be imprisoned at a young age are
young black males.Although there are many other types of people who are imprisoned at a young age. This particular part of the problem is not too controversial. This resource comes from a credible website so I trust it. It provides information that will help me later on.
Tanehuas, David S. "The Roberts Court's Liberal Turn on Juvenile Justice." New York Times. N.p., 27
June 2012. Web. 25 Jan. 2013. <http://www.nytimes.com/2012/06/27/opinion/the-roberts-courts-liberal-turn-on-juvenile-justice.html>.
This article shows me that that the change in juvenile justice is imminent. They explain that the idea that when children are sent to court they should not be treated as adults. In certain situations ,though, extreme measures can be taken. This source is from a credible website that I have used before so I know it can be trusted. This resource was the best I found that explained the reasons why juvenile justice is needed. All this informed me about radical changes for the juvenile justice system.
York Times, New, ed. "Texas's Progress on Juvenile Justice." New York Times. N.p., 9 July 2011.
Web. 16 Feb. 2013. <http://www.nytimes.com/2011/07/10/opinion/sunday/10sun3.html?_r=0>.
This resource gave me an idea of what kind of solutions our out there to improve the juvenile
justice system in the United States. It used Texas, a state with under par standards, as an example. Through a lot of research and many feeble attempts. Texas may very well considered a model for the whole country to follow. This source was recommended to me and when I checked it out I found that it was credible and very reliable. This article was of value to me because my eyes were opened to the great possibilities our juvenile justice system could become.
