Many minors in our society are being incarcerated and severely punished with outrageous sentences; for minor crimes. Some juveniles receive 25 to life in prison. Which means children can spend their entire adult lives in the prison system. It's obvious the juvenile court system is in need of a monumental change. Treating children differently, in court, than adults is not a new radical idea at all. In fact the reasoning for the idea predates the American Revolution. Research, that I have personally found, has strongly indicated that juveniles have less developed brains. Further tests and research have proven that the lobes of the brain that contribute to logic, reasoning, and remorseful thinking are not fully developed until a person is about 21 years of age. The minors that are being imprisoned are from the ages of 12 to 19. Which means that the kids that are committing these crimes don't have fully developed brains to begin with. If I state the matter plainly, the United States of America has a problem with the matter of arresting and convicting kids. Even more pressing though is the systems rehabilitation methods. Basically there are none. They just lock kids up with dangerous, adult, convicted criminals. Here lies the real problem.
